Hello Everyone!👋
Welcome to Hidden Gems Series Ep.2. This episode is going to talk about a pancake café in Osaka, Japan. This place I personally give a big thumps up because they serve the best pancake I have ever eaten in my life. Especially someone like me who is not really a big fan of pancakes.
We found this café through a friend who lives in Osaka. The café is called 'ELK Pancake Café' and is located in the middle of shopping area in Shisaibashi, close to Shisaibashi Station or Orange Street.
What I love about this café is the vibe and amazing pancake. The café is small and cozy with chill Japanese music on the background and perfect for brunch with friends, family and couples. They have a good variety of pancakes, food and drinks in their menu. As the name of the café, the highlight menu here is their Soufflé pancakes.
On this trip we went to the café 3 times to try different menus because it was so good. Within these 3 visits, we ate 4 different types of pancakes which all were so delicious. Let's see what we ordered, starting with the basics to more 'fancy' pancake menus.
Honey & Whipped Butter Pancake (はちみつとホイップバター)

Of course! we started with a basic to be safe for the first time. A plain base pancake with honey and whipped butter. The pancake texture is very fluffy, looks thick but light. The first bite, it blew our minds away. It was soft, light vanilla smell, some sweetness from the honey, eaten together with white whipped....it is perfection!
Strawberry Pancake (ストロベリーパンケーキ)

Second selection is their Strawberry Pancake. Strawberry lovers don't miss this! It is a plain base pancake and whipped butter on top with a special strawberry sauce and fresh strawberry. The taste was amazing as usual especially with the sourness from the fresh strawberry and the sauce.
Shrimp & Avocado Onion Cream Sauce Pancake (エビとアボカドのオニオンクリームソース)

This pancake selection has more of a brunch meal feel. Pancake as a proper meal is not a usual thing for me, so this menu changed my mind on pancakes for real. It was a good combination: Plain base pancake with fresh shrimp and avocado slices on top with onion cream sauce, served with small side of green salad. The onion cream sauce was full flavour, creamy with a hint of herbs; onion, black pepper, some sourness of lemon.
Roast Chicken & Ratatouille Pancake (ローストチキンとラタトゥイユ)
Rate: 3.0/5 ⭐⭐⭐
The last pick, plain base pancake with tiny rosemary that was enough to leave some scent for you to notice. Served together with roasted chicken and ratatouille. In our opinion, this pancake is okay but not that great compared to the other 3 pancakes. We think it might be the ratatouille that does not really go together with pancake. Personally, we think the pancake will go together best with a creamy sauce or whipped cream.

ReplyDeleteYou can find pancakes wherever you go. This is one of my favorites. The article you have shared above on the pancake is very interesting and unique. I love to make pancakes with different tastes and recipes. The last one I tried was the oatmeal pancake recipe as it is a healthy and tasty breakfast option. But now I want to try something unique, will try the above-mentioned pancakes in the article. Thank you for sharing such a useful article.
